LGBTQ* Photographs and Organizations You May Have Missed

From The Marin Foundation:

The “I’m Sorry” Campaign is an effort to apologize to the LGBT community for the ways Christians have caused harm and to show our commitment to making things better in tangible ways.

Huffington Post calls the shit out of LGBT organizations for doing nearly nothing for the T.

TW: CISSEXISM AND BRUTAL VIOLENCE

… imagine a 19-year-old girl being dropped off at an acquaintance’s home by a taxi on a Sunday night and finding three men on the lawn waiting for her. Imagine them kidnapping, torturing, decapitating, dismembering and burning her alive for sport, as young, raucous boys would to a Barbie doll. Imagine them chucking her torso on the side of a highway, with absolutely no regret or sense of immorality. Imagine being the mother called into the morgue to identify a defiled torso as your daughter. Swallow that bitter pill of reality and tell me that marriage is the most important issue for the LGBT community in 2011. For several in the transgender community, it might as well be 1969 all over again, because nothing has changed for them.

Fucking thank you. We’re getting beat the fuck up and murdered, and their biggest concern is gay marriage.

Oh.

Okay then.

Cool.

“I have nothing against marriage equality; I believe in it. But I also know that marriage means nothing if we aren’t alive or otherwise able to enjoy it.”

YES.

Yeah, the whole “we want gay marriage!” whilst I have to worry about myself or my friends getting killed all the time kinda sucks. This is why the gay community sucks balls and I don’t identify with them.

Hi, queer anarcho feminist scene! LOVE YOU!

This is what I aim to change in LGBTQ organizations. I want the focus to be on greater issues, more grave issues.

I just want to repeat that Shelley Hillard was black.

Not just trans.

BLACK and trans. THAT MEANS SOMETHING.

We’ve been fucking saying this shit for the past 10+ years but everyone listens when a White Male blogger says it. Fuck. Dat. Noise. Honestly. People really need to start listening to Q/Trans*POCs when we talk about our oppression, we live it, WE KNOW WHAT THE FUCK WE ARE TALKING ABOUT.

I’m just mad because when white trans women get attacked, there usually is some massive ROAAAAAAAWRRRRRRRRRRRR

And I’m also tired of shit like “oh, violence against PoC queers will lead to violence against white ones”. And white queers seriously believe this. And I’m just like…

NO

Don’t Tell, Show of the Day: After a photo of US Marine Brandon Morgan being welcomed home by his partner Dalan went viral in a big way on Facebook, Morgan issued the following response to the thousands of comments it generated:

To everyone who has responded in a positive way. My partner and I want to say thank you. Dalan, the giant in the photo, can’t believe how many shares and likes we have gotten on this. We didn’t do this to get famous,or something like that we did this cause after 3 deployments and four years knowing each other, we finally told each other how we felt. As for the haters, let em hate…to quote Kat Williams, everyone needs haters, so let them hate. We are the happiest we have ever been and as for the whole PDA and kissing slash hugging in uniform…it was a homecoming, if the Sergeants Major, Captains, Majors, and Colonels around us didn’t care…then why do you care what these random people have to say?

yum.

That shit is hard to make. I tried—rather unsuccessfully. Boyfriend, on other hand, is a much better queer than me and made these perfect rainbow stripes in cupcakes.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: On Privilege and Erasure in Queer Studies

ftmfeminist:

mylifeasafeminista:

Hi Tumblr!

I’m currently working on my senior thesis, a critique of queer theory and queer studies that focuses on the ways in which these disciplines presume a singular queer person/experience, which ultimately centers white gay men and subsequently erases people of color, trans* men and trans* women, non-binary folks, and more.

Although this wasn’t my original thesis topic, I decided to do this after spending months getting frustrated by the privileging of certain types of learning and writings, and the pressure to think and speak in ways that are ‘traditionally academic.’  Furthermore, I was, and still am, extremely tired of and frustrated by the limited representations of queerness that exist in academia, both relating to who queer people are and what issues queer people confront and experience.

Queer studies has come to be dominated by the voices of a small, elite group within specific queer communities, and I think it would be counter-productive of me to write a thesis on this topic that was only grounded in my own, individual perspective.  Therefore, I want to open this up to as many [queer] people as possible!

Here’s how you can help:

  • Submit a photograph of yourself on my thesis blog; I want to have as many pictures as possible, to offer a visual challenge to the limited representations of queerness that exist in academia.
  • Share your thoughts on queer studies, queer theory, the relationship between queerness and academia, or any other topic you feel is relevant!
  • Share and reblog this post!

If you want your submission to be anonymous, just let me know and I will not include your URL address in the post.

If you have any questions, comments, concerns, ideas, etc. please let me know!  Thank you so much for your help!!!

Oh God yes, I support this one hundred percent.

Reblogging this because there can never be too much exposure.

A Widdershins Girl: Sad update re: Bobby Montoya

ftmfeminist:

widdershinsgirl:

Apparently, Bobby Montoya no longer wants to be a girl scout, after a couple of weeks of cissexuals treating her body as a sex object, tearing her down to nothing other than a set of genitals on legs, uncaring about the human being to which those genitals were attached. Congratulations,…

Not to mention every news story I could find on her misgendered her. If suddenly I was national news with everyone misgendering me, I’d probably run as fast as I could in the opposite direction of whatever caused that to happen, too.

What a bummer. :C  But yeah, I’m sure that’d be way more than I could handle too and I ain’t even seven.
